Here's a reference to a current book by Martin Seligman. He has also written in the 1970s on learnt helplessness and depression. The books had a lot of similar content. His research in the 1970s was before safe anti-depressants such as SSRIs, Understanding Depression: A Complete Guide to its Diagnosis & Treatment
